The most important gift you can give your unborn child-Growing Girls Tip #9

blessings

Studies have shown that six months into a pregnancy, the fetus can already see, hear, experience, taste, feel and even learn. Everything the mother experiences, the baby experiences as well. A baby can be directly affected by her mother’s moods and attitude towards pregnancy. How a mother receives and experiences her pregnancy, whether it is with joy or disappointment can also impact the baby physically and emotionally.

If you are expecting, then I’m writing this especially for you, I want you to know that speaking words of blessings to your unborn child is the best gift you can ever give your baby before he or she is born.

Just how early can we influence our children? Scientists and researchers know that by speaking and playing music to an unborn child, you can stimulate them to learn and grow. I’ve seen gadgets that play classical music and pre-natal education systems that tick, talk or play music, promising babies who are able to “demonstrate earlier developmental milestones with regular use”.

But before you rush off to buy the next hottest baby gadget, I want to share with you that three kids and 8 years after, one of my biggest realizations is that each child is different. They have milestones at different ages and each one shines in their own way, and in their own time. So don’t worry too much if your child isn’t walking, talking or doing things earlier than what’s normal.

Recently a video circulated of a sonogram of a 14-week old baby that appears to be clapping along to her parents singing if you’re happy and you know it. However, in another couple’s sonogram, a baby’s entire body was seen flinching in agitation while the parents engaged in a heated argument. These videos help validate the effect mothers have on their child in utero.

So what can you do as early as womb time to influence the life of your child? In a book by Dr. Thomas Verny entitled The Secret Life of the Unborn Child, it says Parents can either bless or curse the identity of the children in the womb and such impartations may affect the child’s self-image for the rest of his life.

There is something in every child that longs for a parent’s blessing and approval. Blessings are spoken words that provide love, encouragement and affirmation. Blessings are God’s favor poured into your child’s life. It’s supernatural assistance from God that empowers the child to grow and prosper in different areas of their life. Curses on the other hand are the opposite of blessings. Curses are lies about your identity in Christ. They disable and keep the children from growing to become what they are meant to be. Curses can be words that are spoken in anger such as saying things like “I never wanted this child” or I wish you were never born.”

When the child is cursed to believe that she was an intrusion into the mother’s life with thoughts of being unwanted, and unprotected, the child can grow up feeling rejected and alienated. Feeling shame even when they have not done anything wrong because their identity was cursed from the womb.

In Craig Hill’s book The Power of a Parent’s Blessing, he talks about a “gypsy spirit” where no matter where people are or what they are doing, they are never happy. They never feel at home and the person wanders from job to job, city to city, relationship to relationship. The root cause can stem from a cursed identity from the womb with feelings of fear, being unwanted, rejected or depressed instead of being blessed. It often results in a troubled soul with no peace, finding false comfort in what could potentially be dangerous habits, vices or beliefs.

So, what better way to set a good foundation over your children than by speaking a blessing over them before they are born. It can set the tone that will help them grow and prosper knowing they are loved and accepted. Blessing our children to grow in greatness and be able to be of service to others using their gifts and talents.

During biblical times we can see evidence of early blessing in scripture. In Luke 1:41-44 it was written :

41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

The apostle James says “ The tongue sets the whole course of one’s life on fire”. Imagine the power of your words over your unborn child. It might well be the best thing you can do to help your child while he or she has not been born.

So how do we bless our children in the womb?

  1. Be grateful. Thank God for the gift that God has given you.
  2. Speak words of blessings to your child let her know that she is accepted and loved.
  3. Boldly and confidently declare God’s promises over your child.
  4. You’ve probably heard of benefits of playing classical music, but instead of just playing classical music to develop their intellect, you can play worship music that will help with their spiritual development which is much more beneficial.
